The Sarawak Language Technology, in short SaLT, is a research group within the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technology (FCSIT).
SaLT was initiated in 2008 with the objective of
REVITALISING AND MAINTAINING SARAWAK CULTURE AND HERITAGE
THROUGH THE USE OF INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGY.
Since its creation, SaLT has already acquired various language resources and developed a few language processing tools for several Sarawak indigenous languages.
Today, SaLT has undertaken the realisations of two important parts of the FCSIT Research Roadmap:
•the Language Platform
•the flagship CHERITAR (Culture and Heritage Repository).
Thus, for the next following years, the research at SaLT will be focusing on two aspects :
(1) Acquisition and development of language resources for Sarawak languages, and
(2) Processing of Sarawak historical documents for knowledge extraction.
