Asynchronous collaborative orthography development methodology for indigenous languages

» Description:
            This project aims
            (1) To identify the requirements and needs of the community                   and linguists via-a-vis the orthography system
            (2) To develop a new methodology (based on (1)) for building the                   orthography system of the indigenous languages in Sarawak.
            (3) To build a new online platform using the identified approach                   and evaluate the methodology.

Development of a machine readable dictionary system for two Sarawak languages

» Description:
            The main objective of this project is to design and develop a             generic framework in which traditional dictionaries (print             dictionaries and handwritten dictionaries) are structured and             stored to be accessible on the Web and ready to (re-)printed.

Ngerabit eLamai : ICTs Supporting Socio-economic Transformation

» Description:
            The main objective of this project is to collect, document and
            organise into a database, and translate into English the             everyday vocabulary used by the Penan tribe in Sarawak, on             the island of Borneo. This resource can be used in supporting             tourism activities in Long Lamai.

Metadata generation tool for Sarawak Gazette

» Description:
            The main objective of this project is to design and implement a             tool that will generate automatically the metadata annotation             of the Sarawak Gazette, assuming that the original files have             already been converted into clean text files.

Learning history via automatically generated lexical games

» Description:
            The objectives of this project are as follows:
            (1) To develop a framework that links automatically raw                    historical texts to a lexical game generator.
            (2) To investigate the effectiveness of the GBL through lexical                    games.
            (3) To study a few NLP techniques in order to determine the best                    approach for historical data extraction.
